Bookkeeping for Currumbin businesses
Currumbin has an unusual business mix for a beach suburb. There is the tourism side — the Wildlife Sanctuary, the Alley, the accommodation and food businesses that trade on visitors. There is a well-established surf and outdoor manufacturing scene, with board builders, shapers, apparel brands and the associated suppliers. And behind both sits the Currumbin Waters industrial estate along Currumbin Creek Road, which houses a serious concentration of trades, fabricators, workshops and distributors.
Three different rhythms, then: tourism revenue that peaks in summer, product businesses carrying stock and selling through several channels, and trades billing by the job. We handle all three, and the common thread is that the owners would all rather be doing the work than the paperwork.
Why Currumbin businesses choose us
Multi-channel sales handled correctly
If you sell wholesale, retail and online, each channel has different margins, different fees and sometimes different GST treatment. A file that lumps them together tells you nothing useful about where the business actually earns.
Stock and job costing done properly
Whether you are building boards or building decks, knowing what a unit or a job actually costs you is the number that changes how you price. It comes out of the file being structured for it from the start.
A fixed fee through a seasonal year
$347 or $650 a month, the same in winter as in summer, so a seasonal business gets a predictable overhead.
Bookkeeping prices for Currumbin businesses
| Service | Price | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Essentials package | $347/month ($80/week) | Sole-trader trades, shapers, studios and small retailers |
| Professional package | $650/month ($150/week) | Manufacturers, brands and contractors with staff, stock and multiple channels |
| BAS lodgement (one-off) | $150 | You do the books, we check the file and lodge |
| IAS lodgement | $66 | Monthly PAYG withholding |
| Superannuation lodgement | $50 | Super guarantee processing and lodgement |
Packages are month to month. If your volumes change we reprice openly rather than quietly adding hours to an invoice.
BAS lodgement for Currumbin businesses
Most Currumbin businesses lodge quarterly. Lodging electronically through a registered BAS agent gives you the concessional dates below rather than the standard ones — roughly four extra weeks on three of the four quarters.
| Quarter | Standard due date | Lodged through a BAS agent |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 — July to September | 28 October | 25 November |
| Q2 — October to December | 28 February | 28 February (no extension) |
| Q3 — January to March | 28 April | 26 May |
| Q4 — April to June | 28 July | 25 August |
For a product business the extra four weeks usually means the quarter’s stock purchases and channel settlements are all in the file before the statement is prepared, which is exactly when the GST position becomes accurate rather than approximate.
If you lodge monthly, the activity statement is due on the 21st of the following month. The December statement is the exception — businesses under $10 million turnover reporting GST monthly through an agent have until 21 February.
We do not lodge on the last afternoon. Your figures are finalised and sent to you for sign-off with time to query anything before it goes to the ATO.
Surf, outdoor and product businesses
A brand selling wholesale to retailers, direct through its own store and online through its own site or a marketplace is effectively running three businesses with three cost structures. We separate revenue and margin by channel so you can see which one is carrying the others.
Stock is the other half of it. Materials, work in progress and finished goods need to flow through cost of goods sold, with stock on hand carried on the balance sheet rather than expensed the day it is bought. Without that, your gross margin is a guess.
Exports are worth getting right too. Goods exported within the required timeframe are generally GST-free, but the documentation has to support it. Claiming it loosely is a straightforward way to attract attention you do not want.
The Currumbin Waters industrial estate
The workshops, fabricators, trades and distributors along Currumbin Creek Road and the streets off it. Job costing so you know which work is worth quoting for, subcontractor payments coded with ABNs for the TPAR due 28 August, and equipment finance treated correctly — chattel mortgages and leases have different GST treatment and are regularly coded the wrong way round.
Where you run heavy vehicles, plant or equipment on diesel, fuel tax credits may be claimable on the BAS. The rates change twice a year and on-road and off-road use are treated differently, so it is worth calculating rather than estimating.
Tourism, food and accommodation
The businesses around the Wildlife Sanctuary, the Alley and the Currumbin beachfront. Seasonal casual payroll, daily takings reconciliation, platform commissions recognised separately from gross sales, and a cash flow view that plans for winter while summer is still paying for it.
Onsite bookkeeping in Currumbin
We visit clients through the Currumbin Waters industrial estate on Currumbin Creek Road, the Currumbin and Palm Beach beachfront businesses, and the workshops and studios across Currumbin Valley.
For a workshop or a product business the first visit onsite is worth it — seeing how materials and stock actually move is faster than any amount of describing it.
Payroll, Single Touch Payroll and payday super
Award interpretation across trades, manufacturing and hospitality, casual and seasonal rosters, apprentice rates, allowances and Single Touch Payroll reporting every pay run.
Since 1 July 2026, payday super requires super contributions to reach each employee’s fund within seven business days of payday rather than quarterly. For a business running a seasonal casual roster, super moving with each pay run means the cost now lands in the same weeks as the wages rather than after the season ends.
Catch-up bookkeeping and overdue BAS
Product and trade businesses fall behind when a good season takes over. The backlog is usually bigger than expected and entirely recoverable.
We bring the file current, lodge the outstanding statements in the right order, and where there is a genuine reason for the delay we can approach the ATO about a payment arrangement or a remission of penalties on your behalf. Catch-up work is quoted as a fixed price once we have looked at the file, so you know what getting clean costs before you commit to it.
Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks
We work in Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks, with Hubdoc for receipt capture so paperwork is photographed once and filed automatically. If you are still running the business out of a spreadsheet and a shoebox, we will get you set up on software properly, migrate the history, and train you on the bits you actually need to touch.
